It is five years before the War of the Ring, and the lands of Middle Earth are beginning to change. Shadows and darkness are growing in the lands, as evil is rebuilding itself in Mordor. The free peoples of Middle Earth have experienced the last of the peaceful years of the third age.

Middle Earth Kingdoms
Grey Havens
The town and harbor of Cirdan, located that the head of the Gulf of Lhun.

Many of the elves are beginning to move west, to leave the shores of Middle Earth. More and more often are elves departing as the fear of evil in the lands increase.

The Shire, The Old Forest, and Bree
An area in Eriador between the Baranduin and the Far Downs, a fertile and well tiled part of Anor. Inhabited by most of the Hobbits in Middle Earth. Men inhabit the boarders near Bree.

The hobbits and Breemen continue their daily lives as if nothing has changed since the beginning of the earth. The evil of the enemy has not spread to their country yet.

Arnor
The land that lies between the Blue Mountains and the Misty Mountains.

A fallen kingdom. Only a few small villages of northern Dunadain remain.

Rivendell
Elven refuge in in a steep and hidden valley in the Angle, ruled by Lord Elrond.

Still a safe place, hardly touched by the forces of the enemy. The elves concern grows though, for the rest of Middle Earth.

Lóthlorien
Elven realm west of Anduin, at the meeting of Celebrant and Anduin. Also called the Golden Wood, ruled by Lady Galadriel.

Protected by Galadriel's power, though the boarders of the land are no longer safe from the ever increasing number of orcs present.

Mirkwood
Home of the woodelves. Also inhabited by black squirrels, Orcs, and great spiders.

The dark woods are still controled by Sauron's forces, even though the Necromancer has now left. It is not safe to leave Thranduil's halls any longer.

The Lonely Mountain, Dale, and Esgaroth
The Mountain and towns east of Mirkwood and west of the Iron Hills where dwarves resided in Thrain's halls. On the southern slopes is the wealthy human city of Dale, and in the middle of Long Lake lies Esgaroth.

The dwarves worry about their cousins who have left to take back Khazad-dum, and the men notice the orcs and goblins returning to the countryside, though they were wiped out in the battle of the five armies, years before.

Mines of Moria
Greatest of the Dwarf-halls. The dwarves delved too deep and released a Balrog, which took over the mines with the orcs.

The balrog and goblins remain dominant over Khazad-dum, and Balin's colony has long been slain. Setting foot inside is certain death.

Rohan and Dunland
Kingdom of the Rohirrim, bounded by the Ered Nimrais, the Isen, the Misty Mountains, Fangorn, the Limlight, Anduin, the Mouths of Entwash, and the Mering Stream.

Orc raids are more common on the Mark, and the Eored are often abroad battling. Something strange seems to be happening to Theoden King.

Isengard and Fangorn Forest
Fortress built by Gondor in the days of great power. Consisted of a natural circular stone wall surrounding a broad plane, in the center of which was the tower Orthanc. It only had one gate, which faced south.

No physical changes have yet taken place to Isengard, though there is a sense of dread in going there. The wizard Saruman is not himself anymore, and rumor has it that orc messengers have been spotted at Orthanc.

Gondor
One of the Dunedain kingdoms of Middle Earth. At the height of its power extends north to Celebrant, east to the Sea of Rhun, south to the River Harnen inland and Umbar on the coast, and west to Gwathlo.

It has become more difficult to fight off the enemy on the outlying cities, and it seems that people from the southern boarder are ever coming through and causing trouble. The steward is not making enough effort to keep his kingdom safe.

Haradwaith
The hot, desert-like lands South of Gondor. It was inhabited by Oliphaunts and the swarthy, savage Haradrim.

The strength of the Haradrim grows, as more armies are formed. These are not just mere armies to protect their cities, but to wage war.

Mordor
Realm east of the lower Anduin, bounded and protected on the north by the Ered Lithui and on the south and west by the Ephel Duath. A stronghold of evil.

After fleeing Mirkwood, Sauron has pronounced himself back in power in Mordor. He is now searching for the one thing he needs to return to full power again.
